Hey, all.

Lately, I've been scrolling through poems on NMG, and loving everything, but finding the poems on equal rights for women, gun control, gay rights, racism and other topics that are important issues today truly inspiring. I want to read more poems from kids around my age. This might be a nice way to adress hot topics that we believe in and write poems about these issues, and in the end, have a collection of moving poems all from girls around the world, about important issues we all believe in. It is also a contest, so I will be judging the poems, but that's not the point of the discussion. If you don't want your poem to be a part of this, but don't want your poem to be judged, that's ok! The point is to feel inspired.

Must be tagged, "ihaveadream"

this is for organization. even if you're not entering the contest, the poems will all be in one place.

If entering contest, tag (as well as "ihaveadream) "ibelieve"

Must be about an important issue today, not about how pineapple should be on pizza

Put a "heavy topic" warning on your poem if needed

Deadline for contest is August 4th

EDIT: You can write more than one poem.

EDIT #2: Only up to five poems please.

Edit #3 (xD): You can only enter five poems for the contest, but you can write however many you want just for the sake of it.

Quick reminder that this isn't meant to be stressful. Just supposed to be a way for us to have a collection of poems on issues today.

Can't wait to see your entries, contest or not!

  • Everybody's poems were amazing, and I loved reading them, but I picked out a chosen few to be the winners. Thank you all SO MUCH for participating, contest or not! :D

Runner up goes to.....Lily! Y.O.L.O is really good, and I especially like the ending.

Third place goes to.....Annie! They were together was awesome and I really like the rhythm. I completely agree with the theme!

Second place goes to.....Soph! I REALLY liked Two. I liked how simple it is, and the one worded style. I was VERY close to awarding your poem first place. Thank you for entering!

And y'all know what this means......first place goes to.....STELLA! YAY! *confetti rains down* I am moved by your poem Stella. The bold words at the end make me feel super empowered. Your poetry in general is amazing! Congratulations on winning first place!

Thank you so much for all who entered!

Preparing For Your Period

“I feel very unprepared about getting my first period. I don’t know exactly what happens and I am really worried about getting it at school. I wouldn’t want to talk to anyone about it and I don’t feel comfortable talking to my mom about it ahead of time either. Would I be able to just use a wad of toilet paper instead of a pad for a day until I get home and can ask my mom for one? Where would I keep pads after I did get my period if I had it at school? I just feel uninformed and unprepared and…

Redesigning Characters

"Do you have any advice on redesigning characters? I have an old one I want to polish up and I'm not sure how to go about it." -Willa While I don’t have a lot of experience redesigning characters visually, I have a bit more experience with reworking characters that I’ve created in pieces of writing. After thinking about your question a little, I think that both crafts tend to come down to the same core pieces, so hopefully my advice will help you out whether you’re looking to work on visual…

Too Much To Do

“Yesterday I felt overwhelmed because I had more to do than I was used to (Lots of homework, after school activities and dinner). Do you have any tips for girls to feel less overwhelmed when they have a lot to do?”  - Anonymous Feeling overwhelmed by long to-do lists is a very common experience, especially as we get older and start taking on more responsibilities and commitments, have more time-consuming homework, etc.—so you are far from alone in this. (It’s certainly something I’ve had to…

Not a People Person

"Okay i am going to very very clear...I need advice from someone older than me. I am not very much a people person like I don't talk much around other people how would you say I deal with this?" - Anonymous Hi! I’m not very much of a “people person” myself, and am generally very shy and quiet in social settings, so I definitely understand this. As I know firsthand, it can be hard being less socially inclined than those around us… but I’m actually going to start by suggesting that, contrary to…

Ask A Girl: Need advice? Give great advice? We help each other! Ask your questions or answer any of the questions already here. Your post will appear in a day or two, so check back often. We've had many girls ask if their questions can be anonymous, and that is not possible on this website. We want you to know that girls in NMG can trust each other, even with embarrassing questions. And if you want to, you can change your user name to a "not real" name that will then also be used in the magazine if your Ask A Girl question is published.

Letters To Luna: I'm Luna, the spirit of New Moon. Write a letter to me with your opinions and suggestions about the magazine and website. I love to read all your notes! Because I get so many letters, I can't reply online. But a select few letters get published in each issue!

Body & Feelings: Body image, mood swings, puberty, your first period, and so much more! The information girls need!

Check It Out: Share your rants and raves about books, magazines, movies, products, music, ads, tv, internet and more. Love it? Hate it? Let us know!

For The Curious: How does stuff in our world happen? Post and ask about experiments, tech, coding, math,  science, engineering, and more!  It's all about the weird, wonderful, and wacky! Be curious and be surprised.

Go Girls & Women Change the World: Amazing girls and women make the world a better place every day. Tell us about who you admire - now and from the past.  These don't have to be people who are already famous!

How Aggravating & Howl at the Moon: Tell us when you see something that's unfair to girls and women -you can vent about it here! And, Howl out your accomplishments and the things that make you proud as a person and a girl!

Love Remembers: Whether it's losing a beloved pet or a cherished person, loss is painful and can be difficult to cope with. But talking about our loved ones and keeping their memories alive can help. Share your beautiful memories here.

Random Stuff: Want a place to be silly, start message board games, or talk about stuff that doesn't fit into the other categories? Then check out this message board!

Role Play: Do you like role playing games? RPG’s are games where players (that’s you!) play the roles of characters in a fictional setting and have all kinds of adventures. See where the stories take you!

Voice Box: We can have different opinions and still be friends and listen respectfully to each other. We're interested to learn about other people's points of view and we don't have to try to convince them to think like we do. This is where we share opinions about issues that are important to us.

Contests & Games: Do you love creating new contests or games for everyone to play? Do you love playing in them? This is the place for you to make your own contests and games and invite everyone to participate! Remember, just like everywhere else on, if you make a contest or game, it must be open to everyone who wants to join in!
