Do you like sushi? Cause I do. Unfortunately, sushi making is a very male dominated field. So much, that some sushi restaurants even refuse to hire female sushi chefs! Ever watched Jiro Dreams of Sushi? That place is one of many sushi restaurants to refuse jobs to women! Jiro Ono's son claims that women are not suited to be sushi chefs, because during their periods their tastebuds become unfit for sushi making. Some people also claim that women's hands are too warm.
Thankfully, there's a restaurant in Tokyo City owned by Yuki Chizui, a young women who wants to encourage women the become sushi masters. It is the first and only sushi restaurant in Japan that is employed and owned entirely by women!!
Here's a link to a short video about Yuki Chizui's restaurant: m.youtube.com/watch?v=PAQEOYYhp78
What's your favorite type of sushi? Do you think these restaurants are being sexist? What do you think of Yuki Chizui's restaurant?

  • I had to click on this because: IT'S CALLED 'FIGHTING SEXISM WITH SUSHI'.
I didn't know that sushi is a male-dominated field. Also, "during their periods their tastebuds become unfit for sushi making"?? It's ridiculous the lengths certain people will go to keep other kinds of people out.
Yuki Chizui's restaurant sounds awesome, and like Acasia said, I hope she inspires many.
    • Yes!!! Me too
  • I LOVE SUSHI!!!!! I think it's great that there is a sushi place like Yuki Chizui's place because women should be aloud to be a part of the sushi making world! I hope that young woman who started it inspires many.
    • Absolutely!!! :)
  • I wanted to try it once, but it had the crab I didn't like, so I didn't eat it.
  • i have never had sushi before and had no idea
  • Wow! I had no idea they don't hire women as sushi chefs sometimes. I have heard of that sushi documentary, but I never watched much of it, as it was in Japanese. I think people who think women can't be sushi masters are defiantly being sexist, and their reasons are ridiculous. Also, I like sushi.
    • Ikr?? I was really shocked when I found out.
  • sushi has never been so deep.
    • Hah, ikr? XD

Tampons

“I would really like to be able to use tampons and other internal use period things. It would make life so much easier for me. But I've never tried them before, and I'm a little nervous. I mean, I seems kind of weird and scary to stick something up inside you like that. Do you have any tips or advice for me?”  -- Anonymous When I first wanted to try tampons, I felt similarly to you. The very first time I tried to put one in, I couldn’t even figure it out! Eventually, though, I tried again, and…

New Beginnings

It’s the beginning of the school year, a time of year when many of you are probably starting something new, whether at a new school, a new grade, new classes, new activities, or meeting new people. Even some things which you’ve done in the past – for instance, a band you were in, or a club – are likely restarting for the school year. In addition, coming up on the Jewish calendar is Rosh Hashanah, which marks the beginning of Jewish new year. So I thought this would be a good time to discuss new…

Working With A Difficult Person

"There is a girl in my class that I really don't like. My teacher tells us who to sit next to in class and she told me to sit with this girl. For example: I would getting on with my work and she would start to hum then I would say: "please can you stop", but she would start drawing on our desk or something. I would ask again but still drawing. I tell my teacher and she said if it starts again I should tell her. I start walking back and the girl would move as far away from me as she can . I'd…

Teachers

Hi everyone! A lot of you, like me, are probably back in school by now. Since the school year is starting, I wanted to share some advice about teachers. Most of my teachers have been kind and wanted me to succeed in their classes. However, one of my high school teachers was the kind of teacher that my classmates were terrified of. Several of my friends, and even the school counselor, warned me that it was extremely difficult to get a good grade in the class. Although their warnings made me…
